Full Comic

The illustration phase of this entire ordeal started with this page, actually. And, as with so many other things in life, starting was tough: not being quite sure how to approach the drawing, uncertainty over what characters should even look like yet ('cause I do preliminary sketches way less than I should) and all that jazz. Eventually this page had to be left unfinished for a while for those bottom panels with all the action were difficult to execute properly.

This three page event was the last thing I came up with before starting to draw, and even though it is rather unnecessary for the narrative, it was very important in that it got me drawing. It was a sign that after three years of planning this in my head, it was time to birth.

Page 19 inks

By far the most painful page of the comic to execute. Scanning the first panel and printing them smaller and smaller, that's easy enough, but trying to simulate "camera" backing away by expanding every panel from every direction with separate pieces of paper, taping them together and then hiding the seems, forget about it! Not to mention painstakingly keep track of where every object in that shot was previously and keeping them in proportion.
It's barely worth it...

The last page I came up with and drew, and also my possible favorite. This page basically eliminates the randomness of what's coming later, or so I hope.

As can be seen, even faces that are all black need to be properly pencilled before inking over it just so you know it's gonna be consistent. On that second panel I just straight up printed the inked panel from page 6 and colored it differently to cut corners a little bit. I do that sometimes.

As evident, the backstory was originally only one page - very concised - however I felt it needed two, so I cut the panels and glued them on separate sheets of paper. Not that it makes it anymore epic, it's just a brief glimpse into what went on in the past, but it was a gut decision. My friend also thought the first guy being put into the body bag was a machine, which wasn't my intention but I didn't make it clear enough. It doesn't make much difference for the story though.
He also wondered if this was continuation to something that's been happening in that universe. It's not. The backstory is all fabricated in my mind, that's it, but there are allusions to certain things. But really, it's so vague I accept all the interpretations people may have of this.
